The market place came together every Tuesday and Thursday. Merchants, craftsmen and service providers of all types gathered from near and far. They used a covered stall to protect their area from the weather, this practice is still maintained in numerous countries and villages. This painting was the first time the artist Chaim Goldberg brought the village characters together in this masterpiece painted in his famous post expressionist style. The only other time he painted this subject was 1993 and it had been sold for $40,000 as a result of an exhibit to a New York collector.
