Flight of the Artist represents the shuttling and moving about so many times by the artist and also the earlier escape from the Holocaust. However, in this
painting the artist seems confused with his recognition and identity as
a Shtetl artist and the one he wishes to be known by and is not allowed
to be brought out to the world, but rather is "stuck" in the perception
of a Genre artist. This is his voice demanding to be viewed as a more
modernist and exploratory as well as a multi-dimensional and multi-media
artist that he was and recognized thus far by 1973 by the Smithsonian as
a master of all media.
