The Jewish Jerusalem Fine Art Store is saddened by the death of Moshe Tzvi Berger who died quietly on the 13th of Tishrei, 5776, at the age of 91. Moshe Tzvi founded The Museum of Psalms in Jerusalem, the gallery which features his artwork.

The Museum of Psalms has been a landmark in Jerusalem since 1995. The museum houses all 150 of his paintings and lithographs, that represent each psalm from a kabbalistic perspective.

Moshe Tzvi Berger was born in 1924 in Rumania. He survived the Holocaust in a work camp. He studied art at the Belle Artte in Rome and the Beaux Arts in Paris. Berger made aliya in 1992. He started the Psalms series in 1988 and only finished it in 2003.

There are millions of artists and thousands of Kabbalists, but an artist that is a student of Kabbalah is a rare phenomenon,” the Rebbe of Stretten has said of artist Moshe Tzvi Berger.

Berger has had more than 100 one-man shows on three continents.

'Berger's color schemes utilize the seven colors of the spectrum, based on the Zohar, the mystical book of Kabbala, and are intended to represent the 10 sefirot (mystical aspects of God). "These paintings are in the metaphorical tradition of the ma'asei merkava (Divine Chariot) rather than the realistic mode of the ma'asei bereishit (Creation) which most art work emulates,”’ (JPost, 2006).

'The paintings of Moshe Tzvi Berger - art as an expression of prayer the Book of Psalms. A most unusual, exquisite, and unique art collection, opening up a new way of thought and communication. This is a first in the history of art'. (Ilmuseum.com).

Recently, The Museum of Psalms was closed for months as renovastions were made at a new location.. The museum reopened on September 1, 2015 , at 56 Chabad Street in the Old City shortly before his death.
