Boris Shapiro depicts Passover in the shtetl. In the center, the Chad Gadya allegory, recounted at the end of the Passover Seder, comes alive. On the platform the father is buying the goat around which the song revolves while the wreath is festooned with the song's symbols. On either side of the wreath the community is busy preparing for the holiday.
